Research Summary: RCN Research with Black Communities (2017-2024)

To reach and empower Black voters through our organizing, our movement must invest and engage authentically with Black audiences to better understand their attitudes, behaviors, and complexities. By reaching Black people with the most resonant messages, we can build Black political power and cultivate public support — across races, places, and genders — to fund our futures and build a better America for all.

While there is much left to learn about what words and narratives resonate with which communities, our research shows that messages rooted in the Race Class Narrative resonate with Black audiences.

This guide compiles We Make the Future Action’s (WMTF/A) learnings from 2017 through Spring 2024 on how to mobilize Black communities most effectively using the Race Class Narrative and other empirically tested race-forward messaging.
