Combatting Disinformation Fact Sheet

In 2023, We Make the Future and the Black Race Class Narrative Project cohort began developing content to combat disinformation — specifically online racialized disinformation targeting Black communities.

This fact sheet summarizes key findings and recommendations from the Black Race Class Narrative Disinformation Briefing, which featured disinformation experts including Brandi Collins-Dexter, Damaso Reyes, and Kelsey Suter.

Instead of pushing for more fact-checking, the strategies highlighted focus on building trust, promoting emotional skepticism or a logic-based correction, and de-escalating tensions offline. This fact sheet can be used by organizers who are hearing disinformation from your audience or responding to disinformation targeting your audience. It aims to empower organizers with the tools needed to better understand and effectively inoculate against disinformation.
