Black RCN Project
Freedom is for everyone, no exceptions.
The Black RCN Project is a cross-state coalition of Black leaders and activists in the Midwest who are committed to building narrative and cultural power towards winning policy changes that will allow Black people the agency to live free and happy lives. Together, these practitioners look at the latest message challenges facing Black communities, and work collaboratively to develop open source materials that build Black support and advocacy within a multiracial coalition.
Centered in the Midwest (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana), this group is committed to winning economic empowerment, racial justice, and gender equity for all. In 2020, they developed the Deliver Black Dreams campaign and messaging guidance to aid in the mobilization of Black voters.
Deliver Black Dreams in Action
Columbus, Ohio's Deliver Black Dreams mural was created through a partnership with Artfluential and Ohio Organizing Collaborative. It was designed to be a positive reminder that Black people have the power to reimagine a place where we all live abundantly and thrive.

Vera Action and We Make the Future Action collaborated to create this social media toolkit to help activists and organizers tell a comprehensive, solutions-oriented story that rejects racialized “tough-on-crime” rhetoric and drives us forward to the vision of safety, accountability, and justice our families and communities need.
Over the last few decades, public opinion about how to deal with crime has shifted away from an overreliance on incarceration and policing and toward embracing comprehensive solutions for safety. However, too many politicians continue to lean hard into the “tough” playbook, instead of offering real solutions that challenge the status quo and deliver real safety and justice for our communities.
To move the conversation to be rooted in both good policy and good politics, we must ask not who is “tougher” on crime, but who is truly serious about advancing safety.
